Investigation on multiple-melting behavior of nano-CaCO3/polypropylene composites

摘要: The multiple melting-peak behavior of polypropylene (PP) in nano-CaCO/PP composites and modified nano-CaCO/PP composites were investigated under the condition of isothermal crystallization and nonisothermal crystallization. The result indicated that the addition of nano-CaCO markedly increased the crystallization temperatures of PP and induced the formation of the β-crystal of PP. The crystallization temperatures of nano-CaCO/PP composites modified by reactive monomers were further increased, but the melting-peak intensity of the β-crystal of PP was not greatly influenced. While in the presence of dicumyl peroxide, nano-CaCO/PP composites modified by reactive monomers led to the significant increase in the melting-peak intensity of the β-crystal of PP. The double melting-peak of PP was observed, which was attributed to the formation of two kinds of different crystallization forms of α-crystal or β-crystal during the crystallization of PP. With the increase of crystallization temperatures, the double melting-peak moved toward the high-temperature side. The intensity of high-temperature melting peak was higher than that of low-temperature melting peak in nano-CaCO/PP composites. While in modified nano-CaCO/PP composites crystallized at higher temperature, the intensity of high-temperature melting peak was lower than that of low-temperature melting peak. The isothermal crystallization time had little effect on the melting temperatures.

Formation of CaCO hollow microspheres in carbonated distiller waste from Solvay soda ash plants

摘要: For decades, distiller waste and CO2 were not the first choice for production of high valued products. Here, CaCO3 hollow microspheres, a high-value product was synthesized from such a reaction system. The synthetic methods, the formation mechanism and operational cost were discussed. When 2.5 L·min–1·L–1 CO2 was flowed into distiller waste (pH = 11.4), spheres with 4–13 μm diameters and about 2 μm shell thickness were obtained. It is found that there is a transformation of CaCO3 particles from solid-cubic nuclei to hollow spheres. Firstly, the Ca(OH)2 in the distiller waste stimulated the nucleation of calcite with a non-template effect and further maintained the calcite form and prevented the formation of vaterite. Therefore, in absence of auxiliaries, the formation of hollow structures mainly depended on the growth and aging of CaCO3. Studies on the crystal morphology and its changes during the growth process point to the inside–out Ostwald effect in the formation of hollow spheres. Change in chemical properties of the bulk solution caused changes in interfacial tension and interfacial energy, which promoted the morphological transformation of CaCO3 particles from cubic calcite to spherical clusters. Finally, the flow process for absorption of CO2 by distiller waste was designed and found profitable.

摘要: Abstract • Forward osmosis (FO) coupled with chemical softening for CCI ROC minimization • Effective removal of scale precursor ions by lime-soda ash softening • Enhanced water recovery from 54% to 86% by mitigation of FO membrane scaling • High-purity CaCO3 was recovered from the softening sludge • Membrane cleaning efficiency of 88.5% was obtained by EDTA for softened ROC Reverse osmosis (RO) is frequently used for water reclamation from treated wastewater or desalination plants. The RO concentrate (ROC) produced from the coal chemical industry (CCI) generally contains refractory organic pollutants and extremely high-concentration inorganic salts with a dissolved solids content of more than 20 g/L contributed by inorganic ions, such as Na+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl−, and SO42−. To address this issue, in this study, we focused on coupling forward osmosis (FO) with chemical softening (FO-CS) for the volume minimization of CCI ROC and the recovery of valuable resources in the form of CaCO3. In the case of the real raw CCI ROC, softening treatment by lime-soda ash was shown to effectively remove Ca2+/Ba2+ (>98.5%) and Mg2+/Sr2+/Si (>80%), as well as significantly mitigate membrane scaling during FO. The softened ROC and raw ROC corresponded to a maximum water recovery of 86% and 54%, respectively. During cyclic FO tests (4 × 10 h), a 27% decline in the water flux was observed for raw ROC, whereas only 4% was observed for softened ROC. The cleaning efficiency using EDTA was also found to be considerably higher for softened ROC (88.5%) than that for raw ROC (49.0%). In addition, CaCO3 (92.2% purity) was recovered from the softening sludge with an average yield of 5.6 kg/m3 treated ROC. This study provides a proof-of-concept demonstration of the FO-CS coupling process for ROC volume minimization and valuable resources recovery, which makes the treatment of CCI ROC more efficient and more economical.

Preparation of polysulfone-based block copolymer ultrafiltration membranes by selective swelling and sacrificing nanofillers

摘要: Selective swelling of block copolymers of polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol) is an emerging strategy to prepare new types of polysulfone ultrafiltration membranes. Herein, we prepared nanoporous polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol) ultrafiltration membranes by selective swelling and further promoted their porosity and ultrafiltration performances by using CaCO3 nanoparticles as the sacrificial nanofillers. Different contents of CaCO3 nanoparticles were doped into the solution of polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol), and thus obtained suspensions were used to prepare both self-supported and bi-layered composite structures. Selective swelling was performed on the obtained block copolymer structures in the solvent pair of ethanol/acetone, producing nanoporous membranes with poly(ethylene glycol) lined along pore walls. The CaCO3 nanoparticles dispersed in polysulfone-b-poly(ethylene glycol) were subsequently etched away by hydrochloric acid and the spaces initially occupied by CaCO3 provided extra pores to the block copolymer layers. The porosity of the membranes was increased with increasing CaCO3 content up to 41%, but further increase in the CaCO3 content led to partial collapse of the membrane. The sacrificial CaCO3 particles provided extra pores and enhanced the connectivity between adjacent pores. Consequently, the membranes prepared under optimized conditions exhibited up to 80% increase in water permeance with slight decrease in rejection compared to neat membranes without the use of sacrificial CaCO3 particles.

Fluoride ions adsorption from water by CaCO enhanced Mn–Fe mixed metal oxides

摘要: Novel CaCO3-enhanced Mn–Fe mixed metal oxides (CMFC) were successfully prepared for the first time by a simple-green hydrothermal strategy without any surfactant or template combined with calcination process. These oxides were then employed as an adsorbent for adsorptive removal of excess fluoride ions. The adsorbent was characterized by SEM, XPS, XRD, FTIR, and BET analysis techniques. The adsorption property of CMFC toward fluoride ion was analyzed by batch experiments. In fact, CMFC exhibited adsorption capacity of 227.3 mg∙g‒1 toward fluoride ion. Results showed that ion exchange, electrostatic attraction and chemical adsorption were the main mechanism for the adhesion of large amount of fluoride ion on the CMFC surface, and the high adsorption capacity responded to the low pH of the adsorption system. When the fluoride ion concentration was increased from 20 to 200 mg∙L‒1, Langmuir model was more in line with experimental results. The change of fluoride ion adsorption with respect to time was accurately described by pseudo-second-order kinetics. After five cycles of use, the adsorbent still maintains a performance of 70.6% of efficiency, compared to the fresh adsorbent. Therefore, this material may act as a potential candidate for adsorbent with broad range of application prospects.

A novel approach in preparing polymer/nano-CaCO composites

摘要: An novel compounding process using nano-CaCO aqueous suspension for preparing polymer/nano-CaCO composites with nanoparticles dispersed at the nanoscale is reported. The process is called the mild mixing method. In this method, the pre-dispersed nanoparticle suspensions are blended with melting polymers in a weak shearing field using an extruder, followed by removing the water from the vent. The four typical polymeric nanocomposites were prepared by mild mixing method. The dispersion of nano-CaCO in the matrix of the polymer at the nanoscale was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The molecular weights of polycarbonate (PC) and its nanocomposite showed that the degradation had not occurred during the mild mixing processing. The mechanical properties of the composite with 1.5 wt-% nano-CaCO improve slightly. It proved that this approach is suitable for the preparation of nanocomposites based on both polar and non-polar polymers.

摘要: 本研究采用肿瘤坏死因子(TNF-α)和酒精处理的Caco-2细胞单层膜模型,评价了139株乳杆菌在体外对肠道屏障功能的影响。本研究建立了一种基于Caco-2细胞单层膜模型的体外方法,用于高效筛选可以抵抗特定代谢疾病(如骨质疏松症和慢性酒精性肝病)的益生菌。

Synthesis of copolymers of 3-acryloyloxymethyl-3′-methyloxetane and 3-(2-(2-(2-Methoxyethylenoxy)ethylenoxy)ethylenoxy)-3′-methyloxetane and their ionic conductivity properties

摘要: An oxetane-derived monomer, 3-acryloyloxymethyl-3′-methyloxetane (AMO) was prepared from the reaction of 3-hydromethyl-3-methyloxetane with acryloyl chloride. The cationic ring-opening copolymerization of AMO with another oxetane-derived monomer, 3-(2-(2-(2-methoxyethylenoxy)ethylenoxy)ethylenoxy)-3′-methyloxetane (MEMO) was conducted in CHCl solution using BF3 ·OEt/1, 4-butanediol as a co-initiator. The resulting copolymers were characterized by FTIR, H NMR and Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC) analyses, and it was found that the enchained ratio of AMO in the copolymers is far lower than its feed ratio. They were crosslinked via the radical polymerization of the vinyl group initiated by BPO after doping with lithium trifluoromethanesulfonimide (LiTFSI) to give rise to tough polymeric electrolyte films. The ionic conductivity was measured at varying content of AMO and different concentration of lithium salt LiTFSI by AC impedance, and a maximum ion conductivity of 1.44×10 S/cm at 30°C or 1.25×10 S/cm at 80°C was attained in the sample PAM 33 at the mole ratio of O : Li = 20. The DSC results indicated that decreases with the increase of the proportion of AMO in the copolymer, well consistent with the ion conductivity trend. The TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) measurement revealed that this kind of copolymer electrolytes is more thermostable than their liquid counterparts.

Heterologous expression of signal protein 14-3-3 in and the subsequent immune response in mice

摘要: Schistosomiasis japonica, a zoonosis caused by , is endemic to the Philippines and China. Several vaccine candidates have been identified and tested in different animal models, but it is still unclear which will be optimal for testing in the field. Therefore, new antigens and strategies are necessary for vaccine development against schistosomiasis japonica. The Sj14-3-3 gene was amplified and subcloned into the expression vector pPICZ?-B and transformed into X-33 by electroporation. Three transformants were induced with methanol. The cultural supernatant was collected and tested by SDS-PAGE and Western blotting. The protein of rSj14-3-3 was prepared and purified and BALB/c mice were immunized which was followed by a challenging infection. The immuno-protection was then evaluated. The Sj14-3-3 gene was expressed and secreted into the medium and its molecular weight was about 35000 as determined by SDS-PAGE. Western blotting showed that the protein had a high specificity against mouse-anti-Sj14-3-3 monoclonal antibody and rSj14-3-3 had a promising immune reactivity. The results of the immuno-protective experiments revealed that the worm reduction was 26.0%, 32.2%, and 36.8%, respectively. The number of eggs in liver tissue was reduced by 36.8%, 43.2%, and 46.1%, respectively. The recombinant Sj14-3-3 of eukaryotic expression in was successfully harvested. The molecular vaccine of Sj14-3-3 could partially induce resistance to the infection with in BALB/c mice. The recombinant protein Sj14-3-3 has promising immunological potentials for further approach to the diagnosis and development of molecular vaccine.

叉头框蛋白P3(FOXP3)是调节性T细胞(Tregs)的一个主要调节因子,调节性T细胞是能抑制抗原特异性免疫反应的T 细胞亚群,在增强宿主耐受性和维持免疫平衡方面发挥着重要作用。众所周知,FOXP3 与多种蛋白质形成复合物,并能通过乙酰化、磷酸化、泛素化和甲基化等各种翻译后修饰(PTM)进行调节。因此,翻译后修饰可改变FOXP3 的稳定性及其调节基因表达的能力,并最终影响调节性T细胞活性。虽然FOXP3 自身并非理想的药物靶点,但脱乙酰酶、乙酰转移酶、激酶和其他可调节FOXP3 的翻译后修饰的酶均为调控FOXP3 和调节性T细胞活性的潜在靶点。但FOXP3 并非这些酶的唯一底物;因此,当使用相关抑制剂时,必须考虑是否存在有害的“FOXP3脱靶”副作用。

Haploinsufficiency of Lipin3 leads to hypertriglyceridemia and obesity by disrupting the expression and

摘要: Lipin proteins including Lipin 1–3 act as transcriptional co-activators and phosphatidic acid phosphohydrolase enzymes, which play crucial roles in lipid metabolism. However, little is known about the function of Lipin3 in triglyceride (TG) metabolism. Here, we identified a novel mutation (NM_001301860: p.1835A>T/p.D612V) of Lipin3 in a large family with hypertriglyceridemia (HTG) and obesity through whole-exome sequencing and Sanger sequencing. Functional studies revealed that the novel variant altered the half-life and stability of the Lipin3 protein. Hence, we generated Lipin3 heterozygous knockout (Lipin3-heKO) mice and cultured primary hepatocytes to explore the pathophysiological roles of Lipin3 in TG metabolism. We found that Lipin3-heKO mice exhibited obvious obesity, HTG, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disorder. Mechanistic study demonstrated that the haploinsufficiency of Lipin3 in primary hepatocytes may induce the overexpression and abnormal distribution of Lipin1 in cytosol and nucleoplasm. The increased expression of Lipin1 in cytosol may contribute to TG anabolism, and the decreased Lipin1 in nucleoplasm can reduce PGC1α, further leading to mitochondrial dysfunction and reduced TG catabolism. Our study suggested that Lipin3 was a novel disease-causing gene inducing obesity and HTG. We also established a relationship between Lipin3 and mitochondrial dysfunction.
